VOLUNTEERISM - Be a "Volunteer for Life!"

BE a VOLUNTEER for LIFE!

Volunteerism is the act or practice of doing volunteer work in community service.  A volunteer is a person who voluntarily undertakes or expresses a willingness to undertake a service.  Volunteering as a way of life is an attitude that is taught early in childhood and teenage years.  Being a volunteer can allow you to experience an overwhelming sense of well being known as the "Helper's High."  Teens say the benefits received from volunteering are:  Learning to respect others, learning to be halpful and kind; learning to understand people who are different from themselves; developing leadership skills; becoming more patient; and better understanding of good citizenship.  It is a fact that by volunteering just one hour per week, youth are 50% less likely to abuse drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, or engage in destructive behavior.  Youth who volunteer are more likely to do well in school, graduate, vote, and be philanthropic. For more information about various volunteer organizations and the benefits of volunteering please click on the "Links" navigation button.  If you are already involved in Community Service in an area that interests you, THANK YOU!  If not, please try several activities until you find your fit.

THANK YOU to all those who VOLUNTEER!

THANK YOU to all the men and women volunteering to serve our country! Please continue to support our Armed Forces as they are the ULTIMATE VOLUNTEERS! To most of them they only consider it a job, however, they fulfill a job that most of us would not desire to fill.  To visit websites that have ideas on supporting our troops or volunteering please visit the "Links" page.

Presently, I have two family members serving in Afghanistan.  My uncle, Lance Baker, and cousin, Hunter Carrington are being greatly missed by their family and friends.  If you would like to send them words of encouragement please do so using their email addresses below.  Thank you. UPDATE 2/1/08:  My Uncle Lance is home!  Thank you so much for your prayers.
ImageBELOW:  My uncle is on the second row, second from the left.  He and his wife, Sherry, have four children:  Amber (age 17), Will ( age 10), and twins, Maegan & Katelyn (age 4).  This picture is from his first deployment to Afghanistan.  He then went to Iraq and is now back in Afghanistan.
